MANILA, Philippines – Manila Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada walked out of a meeting with Vice President Jejomar Binay, after the Housing Guaranty Corp. (HGC) turned down the former President’s prosposal to develop the Central Market.
The HGC is under the supervision of Binay.
“Tumayo ako. Iniwan ko sila sa meeting,” said Estrada during an interview during a gathering of Filipino-Chinese businessmen in Century Park Hotel on Tuesday.
[I stood up and left the meeting.]
The disagreement supposedly stemmed from Estrada’s plan to rebuild the iconic Central Market in Sta. Cruz, Manila ,for which he entered into a public-private partnership (PPP) with SM Development Corp. to finance the project.
“Hulog ng langit ba yung SM, nag offer na they’re willing PPP (public-private partnership). They will spend for all the cost of the market. Kami walang gastos,” he explained over a morning TV program. (Click here to read more)
