Malaysian authorities recently revealed the “mystery call” Flight MH370 Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah received minutes before take-off came from a woman who used pay-as-you-go mobile phone purchased using a false identification.
The police are now reportedly hunting for the still unknown caller who, according to investigators , made the final two-minute call to the missing plane’s pilot shortly before leaving the runway, from a phone with a SIM card obtained under a woman’s name using fake ID.
Authorities said the call is potentially significant to the probe because anyone who purchased pay-as-you-go phone in Malaysia needs to fill out form and present proper identification like passport.
This measure was introduced in the aftermath of 9/11 attacks in the United States to avoid unregistered numbers that cannot be traced.
However, the number used in calling Zaharie was traced by investigators to a Kuala Lumpur shop selling SIM cards, during which the card was found out to be “recently” bought by someone who gave a woman’s name and a false ID.This recent discovery reignites interest on early speculation Zaharie may have possible link to terror groups whose members routinely use untraceable numbers, according to The Daily Mail report.
