A British woman has been suffering from a bizarre medical condition, so rare that only a handful of people in Britain were believed to have the same disorder.
Ellie James was only 30 years old when she was first afflicted with a rare and embarrassing metabolic disorder Trimethylaminuria, also known variably as ‘fish odor syndrome’ or ‘fish malodor syndrome’.
Trimethylaminuria is a disorder that causes defect in the normal production of the enzyme flavin containing monooxygenase, resulting in the body’s losing the ability to properly convert trimethylamine into an oxide, and when released thru a person’s breath, sweat or urine gives off strong foul or fishy odor.
Due to her condition, Ellie has to endure embarrassment and humiliation for 14 years with no possible relief in sight as the disorder has no known cure yet.
During those years, Ellie said even when she tried avoiding foods like meat, coffee, dairy and fish, she was unable to stop the fishy smell from coming off
And worse, sometimes she was even reeking of rotten eggs. (Click here to read more)
