MANILA, Philippines – Not hiding displeasure over US Defense Chief Chuck Hagel’s earlier warning about their aggressive approach to territorial claims, China blames both the Philippines and Japan for provoking troubles in South China Sea and East China Sea, respectively, during the former’s visit to Beijing.
China’s statement came at the end of talks during Hagel’s visit to discuss mutual cooperation on military ties between the two world superpowers where the Pentagon chief toured the country’s lone aircraft carrier.
“It is Japan who is being provocative against China,” Chinese Defense Minister Chang Wanquan told a news conference. “If you come to the conclusion that China is going to resort to force against Japan, that is wrong … we will not take the initiative to stir up troubles.”
Chang also chided the Philippines for ‘disguising itself as the victim’ in the South China Sea conflict and once more criticized Manila’s move to file a memorial as its resort to resolve territorial disputes despite Beijing’s protest. (Click here to read more)
