PH Reaches New Security Pact with US Amid China Row

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine government has reached on Friday a new security agreement with the United States that will facilitate the sharing of local military bases to American soldiers during maritime and humanitarian exercises.

The latest accord between two Asia-Pacific allies will see an increased rotational presence of American military forces in the Philippines to improve its defense capability amid the mounting tension in the West Philippine Sea over its territorial disputes with China.

The Philippine government and the US had been negotiating on the new accord for eight months and have finally reached an agreement ahead of President Barack Obama’s Manila visit on April 28 and 29. (Click here to read more)
