MANILA, Philippines – An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from United Arab Emirates (UAE) was tested positive for Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) and was immediately quarantined when he landed at the airport on Tuesday, April 15.
The man, who is reported to be a nurse working in UAE, was quarantined along with four other members of the family and five people who fetched them at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), health officials said.
Apparently, the virus carrier had a contact with the paramedic worker who died recently from MERS-CoV in Al Ain, UAE, as confirmed by its health department.
But Health Secretary Enrique Ona clarified the 10 people, including the male nurse, who are now in isolation have not shown symptoms of the disease like ,fever, cough, muscle pain, shortness of breath or diarrhea, so far, and the quarantine is just a precautionary measure. (Click here to read more)
