MANILA, Philippines – The ABS-CBN network has defended its newscaster, Korina Sanches, from allegations of having received cash gifts from pork barrel queen Janet Lim- Napoles and issued a statement in support of the veteran journalist.
An article in ABS-CBN News said the network’s spokesperson, Bong Osorio, labelled the Inquirer story by Nancy Carvajal on alleged media men receiving payout from Napoles as ‘baseless and unsupported.’
A May 18 report written by Carvajal on Inquirer supposedly based on whistleblower Benhur Luy’s disbursement file, has identified certain media personalities who allegedly received cash gifts from the Napoles camp through an intermediary, former television director Mon Arroyo.
In Korina’s case, who was named among the alleged media men, Luy’s files showed a disbursement of P50,000 as birthday gift to the TV/radio host on October 5, 2004 through Mon Arroyo. (Click here to read more)
