Lawmaker wants probe on school’s blacklisting of protesting students

MANILA, Philippines – A congressman representing the youth party-list, Kabataan, has filed a resolution in the lower house calling for an immediate investigation into the alleged blacklisting and banning by Eulogio Amang Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology (EARIST) of some 30 students who are protesting a school policy.

Kabataan party-list Representative Terry Ridon filed House Resolution no. 1160 urging the lower house Committee on Higher and Technical Education to conduct a probe into the school’s move he described as ‘illegal and unconscionable’.

The student activists were allegedly blacklisted and banned from re-enrolment with EARIST in the next academic year. They are members Katipunan ng Magaaral at Organisasyon (KAMAO), a student party actively protesting the school’s collection of P1,000 as ‘development fee’ since 2012. (Click here to read more)
