Even a disaster as worse as a plane crash did not stop looters from raiding the poor Malaysian MH17 passengers of their belongings. While the world grieves for the families of the 298 people who perished in the crash, heartless thieves took advantage and rummaged through bags, backpacks and suitcases scattered around wreckage and burned bodies, pilfering whatever valuables they found.
According to a USA Today report, the police did not immediately cordoned off the crash site enabling the looters to ransack the area and plunder through the victim’s possession. Items like money, jewelry, cellphones, cameras and even credit cards were reportedly stolen.
Witnesses said there was not a single wallet or mobile phone found when investigators arrived at the scene. What was left were items with apparently no values to takers like a Minnie Mouse lunch box, a Winnie the Pooh stuff toy, family pictures and passports belonging to passengers.
The looting will not only cause delay in the investigation but also pain to the victims’ families who did not only lose their loved ones in the crash, but also lost their possessions to coldhearted thieves. (Click here to read more)
