Sotto proposes “no relation, no back-ride” motorcycle policy

MANILA, Philippines – If Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III will have his way, non- relatives must not be allowed to ride together in a motorcycle.

A proposal by Senator Sotto wants to ban the motorcycle “riding-in-tandem” or “back-riding”, unless riders belong to one family or are related by blood. His suggestion relies on the supposed research proving a motorcycle is intentionally built for a single person.

The senator defended his proposal as a measure to help the law enforcement in fighting against criminality in the metro, especially the notorious “riding-in-tandem”. He also expressed interest in getting the public opinion on the issue.

Speaking in Filipino, Sotto explained police are facing difficulties in solving crimes perpetrated by “riding-in-tanndems” precisely because there is no applicable law at present to control back-riding in a motorbike.

In Mandaluyong, the law is on experimental stage for 6 months. (Click here to read more)
