MANILA, Philippines – Rebel groups Abu Sayyaf and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) have pledged their support and allegiance to Islamic State (IS), according to international news agency AFP.
This was also confirmed by Abu Misry Mama, spokesman for BIFF, through a telephone conversation with AFP.
“We have an alliance with the Islamic State and Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi,” Musry reportedly said, referring to the leader of IS.
Musry’s statement came after clips were uploaded on You Tube showing members of the terrorist group, Abu Sayyaf, and separatists BIFF pledging their allegiance to the IS and the brutal jihadist war in the Middle East that killed thousands and displaced millions in Iraq and Syria. He also confirmed the video was theirs.
The Islamic State (IS), formerly known as Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has recently proclaimed caliphate status, claiming religious authority over all Muslims in the world. It has gained control over some areas in Iraq and Syria and is widely condemned for deaths and abuses of innocent people caught in the brutal wars waged by extremist jihadists.
