Sandiganbayan junks Enrile motion vs. 90-day suspension

MANILA, Philippines – The Sandiganbayan has rejected the motion for reconsideration filed by the camp of Senator Juan Ponce-Enrile for lack of merit, effectively upholding the court’s earlier decision to suspend him.

Last July 24, the anti-graft court ordered the suspension of the aging lawmaker from the senate for 90 days in connection with the plunder case filed by the Office of the Ombusman against Enrile and his colleagues, Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Ramon ‘Bong’ Revilla.

Enrile then filed an appeal through his lawyer, Estelito Mendoza, who contended only the Senate has the authority to punish its members for disorderly behavior, and “with the concurrence of two-thirds of all its members.”  (Click here to read more)
