MANILA, Philippines – A high-ranking government official has described the tandem of Vice President jejomar Binay and businessman Manny V. Pangilinan for the coming 2016 presidential election as “formidable.”
House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte reportedly said in a text message to Inquirer, “Political strength plus big business, including management know-how,” attributes supposedly represented by Binay and Pangilinan, should be the team to beat in 2016.
Belmonte is a Liberal Party (LP) stalwart and a perceived ally of the President and the administration. So far, LP has not declared any potential candidate for president in 2016, but Interior Secretary Mar Roxas is still believed to the party’s bet.
The Belmonte family is the founder of the Philippine Star newspaper where Pangilinan owns a 51-percent controlling stake.
Binay has earlier disclosed his camp had been in talks with Pangilinan, commonly known as MVP in the business circuit, in an effort to convince the former to be his vice presidential running mate. (Click here to read more)
