- Duterte urged President Aquino to take matters into his own hand and take drastic steps
- The mayor wants all NAIA security personnel replaced with soldiers
- He also offered the services of the Davao City Police if need be
MANILA, Philippines – Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has urged President Aquino to step in to the raging ‘tanim-bala’ controversy at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and take drastic moves to address the problem that is embarrassing the country before the international community.
Duterte asked Aquino to order the relief of all the security personnel at the airport amid allegations that a syndicate is behind the racket to extort money from unsuspecting victims.
“I’d like to call the attention of the president as I did the other day that he must do something about it,” Duterte was quoted by ABS-CBN News as saying.
The tough-talking mayor called on the President to take the matter into his own hand by replacing these personnel with members of the military.
“The President should order the relief of all officials and employees connected to CAAP (Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines) and the aviation command, including the porter services and drivers,” the mayor said.
“I cannot express my anger here. They should be relieved immediately. If there are no other personnel, then the army can do it,” added Duterte, who earlier warned that if the same thing should happen at Davao airport, he will force suspects to swallow the bullets if caught. (Click here to read more)
