PARIS, France – French President Francois Hollande has vowed ruthless revenge against the perpetrators of the Paris attack on Friday that has claimed the lives of dozens of innocent people including the more than 100 hostages who were massacred inside a theater.

Hollande made the statement in the wake of the Islamic State (ISIS) claiming responsibility for the series of coordinated attacks that has so far killed 127 people including the 8 assailants.

The number of fatalities varied from various media reports following confusions and chaos, reaching as high as 158 on Saturday; but the French government officially confirmed the death toll at 127.

Describing the carnage as “an act of war that was prepared, organized, planned from abroad with internal help,” Hollande vowed to launch “merciless” counter actions against the culprits and do whatever means necessary to fight the “terrorist menace”.

The President immediately ordered the closure of its borders and raised the security alert to its highest level even as he insisted the country will “triumph over the barbarity of the Islamist extremists”.“What we are defending is our country, but more than that, it is our values,” he said.
