- A Facebook user who claims to have witnessed the accident shares her own account of the fatal crash
- She debunks the police claim in news reports that rescuers immediately arrived at the area
- Also, there were no barangay officials who came immediately to help
MANILA, Philippines – An alleged witness has come forward and took to social media her own account of the fatal Tagaytay crash that killed six people, all minors, early morning on Sunday, January 17.
In a Facebook post by one Den Castillo, she narrated how her group (she was with friends and siblings) came across the burning car around 2:50 am near the Discovery Suites. They immediately stopped and called for help after noticing someone was still moving inside the vehicle.
They were told that someone already called the rescue team. According to Castillo, there were two small groups of men trying to help with putting out the fire with garden hoses, buckets of water and a fire extinguisher; all of which failed.
Then the blaze became too big that it started to engulf the car with the passengers still inside; including the girl they earlier noticed to have moved her head. They also failed to move her out of the burning Toyota Vios.
Rescuers came late
In her account of the story, Castillo debunked the police’s claim that rescuers immediately arrived at the area to respond. She claimed that 30 minutes had already passed but no rescuers came to help.
“Ang tagal ng rescue ilang minutes na kaming nagaapula ng apoy wala parin. Di namin maalis yung babae (although sya rin yung main na binubuhusan ng tubig) but we really want to kaso sobrang laki narin ng apoy at habang tumatagal, kinakain na ng apoy yung buong kotse,” Castillo wrote.
[The rescue took so long in coming, we had been trying to put out the fire for several minutes and no one came as yet. We were unsuccessful in trying to get the lady out (although water was being poured mainly on her) but we really wanted to. But then the fire has become bigger and has started to engulf the vehicle.]
“I got really disappointed by this because in the end, we were helpless as the people inside,” she said. (Click here to read more)
