  • He also vowed to fight back now that no one is restraining him any longer

MANILA, Philippines – Expelled Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) Minister Lowell Menorca finally broke his silence days after leaving for Vietnam with his family amid the number of cases he is facing before local courts.

In a lengthy statement published on ABS-CBN News, Menorca said his family, including his young daughter, has been receiving death threats from unknown individuals.

He also recalled his horrifying ordeal from the day he was abducted in Sorsogon on July 16, 2015 up to the time he was incarcerated at a Dasmariñas jail for nine days, until they ended up being held against their will in an INC compound in Tandang Sora Quezon City.

“Dahil sa kawalan namin ng kapangyarihan sa aming kalayaan at kalagayan, sumunod kami sa lahat ng kanilang kagustuhan at sinabi ang anumang gusto nilang ipasabi sa amin,” Menorca said. [Because we lost control of our own liberty and situation, we were forced to obey everything they’ve said and what they want us to say.]

Above the law

Even after they were rescued from detention, Menorca said the alleged harassment continued and got worse after they filed a petition for writ of habeas corpus before the Supreme Court.

“Kayang-kaya ng INC na magpakidnap, magpakulong, magpa-illegally detain, mang-harass, manggipit at tumugis ng tao kailan man nila gusto dahil sa paniniwala nila na angat sila sa batas,” he continued. [INC is capable of kidnapping, incarcerating, illegally-detaining, harassing, and run after a person whenever they want because they believe they are above the law.]

Menorca said his predicament started after he was suspected to be the blogger ‘Antonio Ebanghelista’ who is behind exposes on alleged INC abuses and irregularities.

Death threats

Resolved at first to face and fight the battle ahead against INC and its powerful ministers, Menorca, however,  had a change of heart after he received a threat from someone while staying at a safehouse. (Click here to read more)
