The former chairman of Guan Sheng Yuan Co Ltd, manufacturer of the popular and iconic White Rabbit candy was killed by a rock supposedly kicked by a monkey during a tour at a nature park in Yuntai Mountain in Henan, China last week.
Weng Mao, the 68-year-old former boss of the Shanghai food company died in a freak accident on Tuesday, April 19 after he was struck in the head by a stone kicked by a monkey, said to be a macaque – a second-class protected animal species in China.
He was rushed to the Xiuwu County People’s Hospital but later succumbed to the head injury. News of his death only spread after it was revealed he was the chairman of the famous White Rabbit candy maker.
According to Shanghaiist, the park management confirmed the incident, saying Mr. Weng was “accidentally hit by a rock from above which was kicked down by a monkey.”
