Snake on a plane grounds Dubai-bound Emirates flight

A snake found on an Emirates passenger plane bound for Dubai, United Arab Emirates from Muscat, Oman has forced cancellation of its flight on Sunday, January 9; this was confirmed by the airline management.

But unlike the Samuel Jackson 2006 cult classic ‘Snakes on a plane’, however, the reptile was discovered and removed even before the passengers boarded the aircraft.

Nevertheless, the incident forced the flight to be grounded until security declared the EK0863 cleared and safe to travel.

According to the Khaleej Times, the stowaway serpent was found by baggage handlers inside the cargo hold.

“Emirates can confirm that flight EK0863 from Muscat to Dubai on 8 January 2017, was cancelled due to a detection of a snake in the cargo hold prior to passengers boarding,” said a statement from an airline spokesperson.

The flight was allowed to leave only after the snake was removed and a thorough inspection was conducted.

“Engineering and cleaning teams are working to clear the aircraft to re-enter service. We apologize for the inconvenience caused,” the statement added.

This isn’t the first time a snake was found on an airplane in recent months.

In November, a reptile found on the overhead luggage compartment caused panic among passengers on an Aeromexico flight in Mexico.
